Time Change For Farmer Minor May 6, 2008

The time of the program Pig Out on Reading with Farmer Minor & Daisy on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, was inadvertently reported incorrectly. The program will actually take place at 10:00AM. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If the time change leaves you unable to attend the program, please give us a call or stop by the desk for your deposit refund.

 

Pig Out On Reading April 29, 2008

On Tuesday, May 13th at 10:30AM, children of all ages are invited to register to attend a Pig Out on Reading with Farmer Minor & Daisy. Farmer Brown and his pet pig Daisy will present a fun-filled show that highlights the joy of reading. All children registered to attend will receive their own book to take home. In person registration is required for this event.

 

Registration For A Special Session April 21, 2008

Registration for the special three week session of Tales & Tunes For Tots and Storytime will take place at 9:00AM on Thursday, May 1, 2008. You may register for this three week session scheduled to take place the weeks of May 19, 26 and June 2, online or in person at the Children’s Services Desk.

 
Registration is open to Southington residents only.  To register your child, please click on “children’s programming calendar” in the green blogroll box on the right.  Scroll down to locate the date for the first class.  Remember to register your child for the age appropriate class.  This is determined by using the child’s age on the date of registration.

 
At 9:00AM on the date of registration, a hand holding a pen will appear to the far right (if the hand does not appear, please refresh your screen).  Click on the hand, making sure not to click the letter “D,” and enter your child’s name.  style=”text-decoration: underline;”>Your name should not appear anywhere in the registration. Fill in your telephone number and click “save.”  You should then receive a confirmation message.  In order to complete your registration you must come to the library and sign the Attendance Contract.  If you have any questions, please reply on this blog or contact the Children’s Department at 628-0947 X3.
 

 

Sleeping Beauty at the Library March 25, 2008

Sleeping Beauty

A puppet show retelling the classic Italian tale Sleeping Beauty will take place as part of the library’s WOW (World of Words) celebration of Italy during school vacation week. The show will be held on Tuesday April 15th at 10:30AM. In person registration is required for this program.

There may be snow outside, but it’s time to look ahead to spring. Registration for Spring Storytime, Tales & Tunes For Tots & Playdate will take place on Thursday March 6, 2008, beginning at 9:00AM. You may register online or in person at the Children’s Services Desk.

A Great Opera-a-tunity! February 15, 2008

The people at Children’s Dance Theater Connection have been kind enough to offer Southington Library parents the opportunity to expose their children to the wonderful worlds of opera and dance. The Connecticut Lyric Opera, with musical accompaniment by the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, will present the opera Dido and Aeneas on Friday February 22, 2008 at 7:00PM. On this special night children registering through the Children’s Department of the Southington Library will get into the opera FREE! Parent tickets will be offered at the reduced rate of $10. The performance will be held at the Trinity on Main Arts Center in New Britain and free garage parking will be available. Registration For Monthly Programs January 16, 2008

In response to suggestions and in an effort to make registration for all programming as fair as we possibly can, the Children’s Department will be instituting a new registration procedure for all of our monthly school year programming beginning with programming scheduled to take place in the month of April. Registration for the next month of a program will no longer take place on the night of the previous month’s program.

 
Registration will remain on a first come, first served basis; however, registration for the next month’s edition will begin 6:00PM, five weeks before the program takes place. For example, the March edition of our book club, Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant will take place on Wednesday March 19th. Registration for the April edition of Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant will take place at 6:00PM on Wednesday March 12th.

 
The programs that will use the new registration system are:  Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant, After School Adventures, Get Hooked and Kids’ Studio. Under the new registration system the March edition of After School Adventures takes place on Tuesday March 11th. Registration for the April edition of After School Adventures will take place on Tuesday March 4th at 6:00PM. The March edition of Get Hooked will take place on Wednesday March 12th. Registration for the April edition of Get Hooked will take place on Wednesday March 5th at 6:00PM. Finally, the March edition of Kids’ Studio will take place on Thursday March 6th. Registration for the April edition of Kids’ Studio will take place at 6:00PM on Thursday February 28th.

Registration Reminder – Children’s Programs For The New Year January 3, 2008

I’d like to take a minute to wish everyone a happy, healthy New Year. Let’s hope 2008 brings peace and prosperity to all

 
The new year brings new programs for your children to enjoy at the library. Registration for Storytime, Tales & Tunes For Tots and Playdate takes place on Thursday January 10, 2008 at 9:00AM. You may register in person or online. See the post below for specific instructions. For more information on programs parents and children can enjoy together, including Music Together, an animal visit from the Children’s Museum and the resumption of the Mommy & Me/Daddy & Me Saturday Storytime, use the link to the left, under the blogroll titled “parent’s connection.”

 
The new year also brings more programming for children of all ages. Come and join us for Cover to Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant on Wednesday January 9th at 6:00PM. Kids age 9+ discuss a terrific book and have a pizza dinner. This program requires registration and meets monthly. Don’t miss it

 
After School Adventures invites children ages 7-10 to its most mysterious edition ever on Tuesday January 15th at 4:00PM. Children will play games, have a snack and receive mystery prizes. We can’t tell you what because that would spoil the fun. Register and find out.

 
Children ages 7-12 are invited to register to attend our Scrapbooking For Children class on Saturday January 19th at 11:00AM. All materials will be provided. You bring the photos and the memories.
