In response to suggestions and in an effort to make registration for all programming as fair as we possibly can, the Children’s Department will be instituting a new registration procedure for all of our monthly school year programming beginning with programming scheduled to take place in the month of April. Registration for the next month of a program will no longer take place on the night of the previous month’s program.

Registration will remain on a first come, first served basis; however, registration for the next month’s edition will begin 6:00PM, five weeks before the program takes place. For example, the March edition of our book club, Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant will take place on Wednesday March 19th. Registration for the April edition of Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant will take place at 6:00PM on Wednesday March 12th.

The programs that will use the new registration system are:  Cover-to-Cover: A Reading and Eating Rave and Rant, After School Adventures, Get Hooked and Kids’ Studio. Under the new registration system the March edition of After School Adventures takes place on Tuesday March 11th. Registration for the April edition of After School Adventures will take place on Tuesday March 4th at 6:00PM. The March edition of Get Hooked will take place on Wednesday March 12th. Registration for the April edition of Get Hooked will take place on Wednesday March 5th at 6:00PM. Finally, the March edition of Kids’ Studio will take place on Thursday March 6th. Registration for the April edition of Kids’ Studio will take place at 6:00PM on Thursday February 28th.

Each of the next four Mondays (November 26th – December 17th), while supplies last, the Children’s Department will offer a special Gift Gallery craft for children that allows children to create handmade gifts for their parents, grandparents, babysitter or anyone special. Our first gift is a magic scratch picture frame. Children can decorate this holiday shaped frame and then add a picture of themselves to create a beautiful, personalized gift. Stop by the Gift Gallery each Monday to create a different gift.

Showcase Your School’s Program at the Library November 16, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — splchildrens @ 4:05 pm

These are the latest winners from the Strong Elementary School’s Young Author Program. Each month the Children’s Department displays the winners of the Strong School Young Author’s Program at the library. When the next month’s winners are announced, our previous winners’ book are catalogued and placed in the collection. Children can see their books on the shelves next to those of famous authors they know and love. The winning authors can also search for their names under an author search in our online catalog. It’s a cool way to honor the children’s hard work and build self-esteem. The library sponsors a party for all winners at the end of the school year.

If your school has a program you’d like to showcase at the library, we’d love to hear about it. Post a reply to this post or contact the Children’s Department at 628-0947 X3.
