Preschool – Second Grade

Top 4 . . . .

Pet Shop Lullaby

When the pet store closes for the night, a hamster’s activities keep the other animals awake as they try to think of some way to put him to sleep.

The Book That Eats People

What do little Sam Ruskin, sweet Victoria Glassford, and Mr. Singh, the security guard, have in common? Each of them was utterly consumed by the book you see pictured above. Utterly–and literally. John Perry’s darkly humorous text, paired with Mark Fearing’s illustrations of this book’s people-eating history, will make children laugh…and wonder if the book they hold in their hands might be a stealthy predator. Gulp!

Wag!

It seems that everything gets Earl’s tail wagging–a bowl of food, a field of flowers, long walks, and belly rubs. But Mooch, Earl’s best friend, knows what all of these things have in common: love is what makes Earl’s tail wag. Patrick McDonnell, creator of the nationally syndicated comic strip, Mutts, pays an incredibly sweet tribute to his dog in a tale of wiggling and waggling, fwipping and fwapping…and every dog’s secret to the joy of life.

Raf

“When Ben loses Raf, his favorite stuffed toy, he is inconsolable. But a few days later, Ben receives a postcard–from Raf! Raf writes about how he got lost and was found…Will Raf really return to Ben? Will Ben still recognize him? And will he make it home in time for Ben’s birthday?”

And More . . . .

Pouch

When you’re new to the world, every hop brings another surprise! Joey wants to go exploring, but everything he discovers is almost too exciting. Bees, rabbits, birds . . . other creatures can be scary! But Mama is never far away, and who knows—Joey might even make a friend.

Otis

Otis is a special tractor. He loves his farmer and he loves to work. And he loves the little calf in the next stall, whom he purrs to sleep with his soft motor. In fact, the two become great friends: they play in the fields, leap hay bales, and play ring-around-the-rosy by Mud Pond. But when Otis is replaced with the big yellow tractor, he is cast away behind the barn, unused, unnoticed . . . until the little calf gets stuck in Mud Pond. Then there is only one tractor—and it’s not big or yellow—who can come to the rescue. It is little old Otis who saves his friend. It is Otis who saves the day.

Truckery Rhymes

For generations, Trucks have been sharing these beloved tales, rowdy rhymes, and honk-along songs. Finally these classics have been gathered into one big, noisy, high-octane collection! All the favorite truckery rhymes are here — from “Peter Peter Payload Eater” to “Little Dan Dumper”…all the way to “Pop! Blows the Diesel.”
